I liked this book a lot. It could have gone either way, based on the title (which suggests that the authors have a guaranteed, sure-fire path to God clearly laid out in 7 easy steps). But fortunately, it’s not that book at all. This is a collection of stories and suggestions from real people who wanted to be closer to God. As the back cover describes, most of us want to find this spiritual connection, but often our most deeply felt longings–for meaning, for love, for significance–end up leading us away from, instead of toward God.
The book is built around a 30-day challenge (again, something I’m not usually a fan of, but this one works). They ask readers to begin each day with a prayer, asking, “God if you are real, make yourself real to me.” Then see how God responds. If readers take nothing else away from the book, this idea is worth the $22.99 cover price. It’s a gem, something that puts us in immediate connection with God, rather than simply relying on the stories and promises of other people. The book is stronger than the title, and I’d recommend it for anyone in the early stages of exploring faith.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
